Denzel Curry – HIM
Denzel Curry contributes “HIM” to the soundtrack of Jordan Peele’s latest psychological horror film “Him,” hitting theaters September 19th. The track arrives alongside a soundtrack featuring Tierra Whack, Mavi, and Maxo Kream on Loma Vista Recordings.
Bobby Krlic handled both the film’s score and production duties on Curry’s track. Known for his work with director Ari Aster, Krlic brings those same eerie undertones to Curry’s hip-hop. The result adds a sinister edge to Curry’s usual amped-up delivery.
Curry’s always been skilled at finding the dark corners in aggressive rap, and “HIM” fits that pattern. Krlic’s subtle background elements shift the song’s context without overwhelming Curry’s vocals. It’s a smart collaboration that serves both the film’s atmosphere and Curry’s artistic strengths.
The film follows a promising football prospect (Tyriq Withers) whose career derails after an obsessed fan attacks him. Marlon Wayans plays a veteran quarterback trying to help him return to the field. Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, and Tierra Whack round out the supporting cast.
Early reviews for the film have been mixed, but the soundtrack’s hip-hop collaborations with Krlic’s scoring background make for an interesting musical experiment.
